I’ll keep this post short since I’m completely exhausted and can’t think incredibly clearly at the moment But I did want to post a quick update on how the Chicago Marathon went. After a long and hard 18 weeks of Hansons Marathon Method training ending with a shin issue that sidelined me from running the final two weeks, I’m happy to share that I got a new marathon PR today! 3:43:27. I’m very excited! I had set A, B, and C goals for this race and I hit my B goal of breaking 3:45. All things considered I am thrilled, and I know I’ll hit my A goal in the near future!
I’ll post my reflections on the Hansons plan this week, but I do have to say that I did not hit the wall today, and that is HUGE in my book. It was a completely different experience from my 2011 Chicago marathon. I have to give a lot of the credit for that to the training method.
Here’s a couple of pictures after the finish. Even though I felt ill, I had to do the post-race beer. 311 wheat ale is awesome!
I feel like my family and friends should get medals for having to put up with me talking about Hansons Marathon Method non-stop for the last 18 weeks. Apparently Parth thought so as well:
Thanks to Parth, my parents, and my cousin Meg for coming out to cheer at the half marathon mark – that was just what I needed!
New PR: 3:43:27
Age Group Place: 336/3274
Gender Place: 1547/17527
I will post a more detailed update on the race, as well as my reflections on training on the Hansons Marathon Method later this week! For now, time to go have a well deserved glass of wine.
Did anyone else race this weekend? How did it go?
