Today I’m excited to share with you one of my new favorite nutritional products – Bearded Brothers Energy Bars! I first heard about Bearded Brothers when I saw their bars in my sister Laura’s yoga studio, Big Yoga Houston. I didn’t try one at the time, but I read the label and they sounded awesome. So I was very excited when I recently contacted Bearded Brothers and they offered to send me some of their bars to review, and better yet, a set to give away to a reader of my blog!
About Bearded Brothers

Bearded Brothers bars come in four awesome flavors:

As someone who works in the field of Customer Experience, I know first impressions are important. And my first impression when I received the package from Bearded Brothers was VERY positive! To start with, they included this little handwritten note in the package. How neat is that?
Second of all, the packaging for these bars is pretty cool. The wrapper is compostable, and therefore good for the environment. The bars are thin enough that they’re easy to slide into a pocket or purse. And I love their cool, simple, logo!
I absolutely LOVE these bars. All four flavors were really good, but my personal favorite is the Colossal Coconut Mango. I honestly have never thought to mix coconut and mango, but it’s an awesome combination. There are nice chunks of the dried mango in there. The bars are really dense and filling enough for a pre or post run snack. I ate one around 3:30 the other day knowing I had a run coming up at 5:00 and it tided me over and fueled me for my run.
Before this my favorite energy bar was Picky Bars. I’d say these are very comparable in terms of consistency, density and taste to those bars, but I may switch to these just because I love the Coconut Mango flavor so much!
The only thing that caused me to pause momentarally was the sugar content in the bars. Then I read this blog post on the Bearded Brothers website that explains that the sugar comes from whole blended dates.
They explain that in a publication by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, they state:“In most varieties the sugar content of the date fruit is almost entirely of the inverted form (namely glucose or fructose}. The invert sugar in dates is immediately absorbed by the human body without being subject to the digestion that ordinary sugar goes through….Their energy is in the form of invert sugars.
After reading the additional information in the post, I really wasn’t concerned about the sugar content. I am glad they thought to address that on their blog, as I imagine it is a common observation about these bars.
You can buy Bearded Brothers bars on their website for $12.00 for a 4-pack or $36.00 for a case of twelve. So they’re definitely comparable to many of the energy bars out there. And I have to say that they are more filling than some (such as Kind Bars) so I’d be willing to pay the extra money for these.
Overall, I am a huge fan of these bars, and plan to place an order for a case this week! They’re delicious, nutritious, and give me the energy I need to fuel my runs. Definitely need these to get me through my last three weeks of marathon training
