Good news! After my brief panic moment yesterday I found out today that the issue with my shin is NOT a stress fracture! The x-ray came back negative.
So I’m in the clear….sort of.
I do feel like it’s feeling better each day. It no longer hurts when I walk like it did earlier this week. But it definitely still hurts. I’m now on my 8th day of no running, and the doctor told me to just walk and swim this weekend. It’s pretty clear I’m not going to be running before the race, assuming I can do the race. I’m going to look for my doctor to advise me on that mid-week next week. Obviously I’m not going to do it if I’m going to cause damage by doing so, but if I can do it, even if it’s now a slow jog and walk rather than my original goal of breaking 3:40, I will do it!! Like Amy said in her comment on my post yesterday, maybe a marathon without the pressure of hitting a time would be good in some ways. I think that’s probably the most positive way to look at things at this point.
I don’t have much more to share today, but did want to just say thanks so much for all the encouragement over this last week! It has helped a lot to hear from other runners who have had similar issues and who ‘get it’ in a way non-runners sometimes don’t.
I feel the need to end these injury-related posts on a light note, so I’ll leave you with this. This is a picture of my husband and his new ‘weighted vest’. Yes, a weighted vest. The ironic part about this? The vest is for RUNNING in. Yes, that’s right – on the week I get injured and can’t run, my husband (who by the way, doesn’t really like running) is planning to start running in a weighted vest. You’ll have to ask him for the reasoning behind this. Something to do with ‘Crossfit’ and ‘conditioning’
Any advice for staying sane this coming week while I can’t run?!
